Dog Plunges Down Hidden Well in Eastleigh – Dramatic Rescue!

Seven-year-old Labrador Willy had a terrifying night after falling down a concealed well in a woodland near Boyatt Lane, Eastleigh. The canine went missing during an evening walk with owner Roger Bacon and his other dog, sparking a desperate search.

Owner Finds Willy’s Cries Coming from Hidden Pit

Roger realised Willy was nowhere to be seen and followed the dog’s barking through thick ivy to discover a deep, water-filled well. “I’ve lived here for years and had no idea this well was hidden,” Roger said. “Anyone’s pet or even a child could easily fall in without spotting it.”

Firefighters Descend to Rescue Trapped Dog

Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene. Animal Rescue Advisor Jim Green and a specialist rope rescue team from Eastleigh Fire Station sprang into action. Firefighter Pete Richards was lowered down the narrow shaft and secured Willy, lifting him out safely with specialist gear.

Willy Cleaned, Uninjured, and Back Home

Anxious firefighters gave Willy a warm water wash straight from the fire engine’s hose to clean off the grime. Luckily, the brave dog escaped without injury. Roger added, “Willy’s had a much-needed bath and a good chew on his bone this morning. He’s doing really well.”

Roger warned fellow dog walkers: “Beware of hidden wells and pits when out in the woods.”

Rescue Experts Urge Caution for Pets and Public

“People want to help when animals are in trouble, but it’s vital to know your limits and call in specialists if needed,” said Animal Rescue Advisor Jim Green. “Hampshire Fire & Rescue are proud to bring skills and reassurance to these tricky incidents.”
