Teen Duo Jailed Over Brutal Widnes Machete Attack

Two local teenagers have been slammed with jail time after a terrifying machete assault in broad daylight rocked Widnes.

Jayjay Standen, 19, and a 16-year-old boy faced Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 29 January 2026, following the shocking attack.

Young Teen Gets 40 Months for Machete Strike

The 16-year-old admitted to serious assault and carrying a bladed weapon in public, earning a hefty 40-month sentence. Standen got 17 months for affray, including triggering a two-month suspended sentence.

Horrific Attack Leaves Victim Fighting for Recovery

The violent incident unfolded just before 6pm on Sunday, 15 June 2025, at Elizabeth Court, Widnes. Police were called after a gang threatened a 22-year-old man. One thug swung a machete, leaving the victim with a deep cheek cut and a fractured jaw.

Police Praise Quick Action, Warn Community

Officers moved fast to nab several suspects, including the two now behind bars. It was confirmed the younger teen dealt the brutal machete blow.

“These two teenagers were involved in a terrifying attack carried out in daylight in the middle of the street,” a police spokesperson said. “The victim had to endure a horrendous ordeal and is still recovering from his injuries. Witnesses were deeply shaken by what they saw. “The 16-year-old was armed with a weapon capable of killing. It’s a miracle the victim wasn’t killed. “The swift arrests and court action show how seriously we take these crimes.”
