Two Men Jailed After Brutal Knife Attack Nearly Kills Man in Scarborough
Two men have been locked up following a savage knife assault that nearly claimed a man’s life in Scarborough. Laurentiu Ardeleanu, 23, and Gheorghita Zamacali, 27, plotted the attack in chilling detail, a court heard.
Premeditated, Brutal Assault at Scarborough Flats
The terrifying attack unfolded on 25 January last year at a block of flats on West Park Terrace. Police were called to reports of a violent disturbance and found the victim, a 30-year-old man, bleeding heavily from a chest stab wound and a severe head gash.
Officers administered first aid before an ambulance rushed the victim to hospital. His injuries were so serious he was airlifted for urgent specialist care.
Attackers Caught Fleeing UK Through Euro Tunnel
Investigators revealed the duo worked as a team, both playing active roles in stabbing and beating the victim. They only stopped when police sirens forced them to flee the scene.
CCTV showed Ardeleanu and Zamacali quickly walking away before escaping the country. Both Romanian nationals were caught days later returning via the Euro Tunnel in Kent.
Guilty Pleas Lead to Jail Sentences
After initially denying the attack and lying to officers, the pair admitted their crimes at York Crown Court. Ardeleanu was sentenced to two and a half years for wounding. Zamacali received a harsher five-year term for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The judge condemned the attack as “dangerous, violent and potentially fatal,” underscoring the brutal, planned nature of the assault.
