Teens Arrested After Shocking Hackney Station Shooting
Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a violent incident at Hackney Central Overground station on 1 March. They remain in police custody and are due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court at 10am on Monday 6 March.
Planned Police Operation Nets Five Arrests Over Firearms and Stabbing Cases
On the evening of 3 March at 7.47pm, officers from the Metropolitan Police carried out a tactical stop on a vehicle on Essex Road, North London. Five males aged 16 to 19 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
These arrests link to a firearms incident in London Fields last month and a stabbing at the Hackney Central station.
Victim’s Condition Critical After Gunshot and Stabbing
British Transport Police rushed to Hackney Central station after reports of a gunshot at 1.29pm on 1 March. A 20-year-old man was found with multiple cuts and a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.
A knife, a bullet, and a bullet casing were recovered from the scene.
Police Appeal for Witnesses as Investigation Continues
BTP Detective Inspector Paul Attwell said: “Working closely with our colleagues at the Metropolitan Police Service, we now have two males in custody as our enquiries into the Hackney incident continue. We urge anyone who was at or near Hackney Central station on 1 March to come forward with information.”
Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Mat Freeman added: “This is a great example of joint police work. Several males are now in custody. A suspected firearm was recovered from a vehicle and will undergo specialist analysis.”
