Tyler Thornhill, 24, from Henbury, Bristol, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for viciously attacking his ex-partner in Warminster. The assault also involved criminal damage during the incident.

The shocking attack occurred on February 14, 2023, when Thornhill entered his ex-partner’s home wielding a baseball bat. He grabbed her by the throat and took some of her belongings before police intervened and arrested him.

At Salisbury Crown Court on April 29, Thornhill pleaded guilty to two counts of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) and two counts of criminal damage.

In a court statement, the victim described the ongoing fear she experienced: “I constantly check multiple times through the night that doors are locked, curtains are shut, lights are off, and even go as far as sellotaping the letterbox in fear that he would set fire to my house whilst I was asleep. I never thought I would find the courage to report the abuse simply because I was too scared to find out the repercussions.”

As part of his sentence, Thornhill must pay a £228 surcharge and is subject to a 10-year restraining order to keep him away from the victim.

Suzanne Stone, a local crime investigator, condemned Thornhill’s violent behaviour and praised the victim’s bravery for coming forward. She welcomed the strong sentence handed down by the court.

Stone said, “I hope the victim can now finally start to feel safe and begin to move forward with their life. Anyone suffering abuse should seek help. We urge all victims to come forward – all reports will be taken seriously and handled sensitively.”

For those needing assistance, crimes can be reported online via the Wiltshire Police website. In emergencies, dial 999 immediately. Information can also be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or through their website.
