Thanet is on edge this weekend as Kent Police maintain dispersal orders across Broadstairs, Margate, and Ramsgate. This action comes in response to a recent increase in antisocial behaviour, including underage drinking, street fights, and aggressive incidents targeting shop and restaurant staff.

Between Thursday 19 and Saturday 21 June, police made five arrests, one of which involved a teenager charged with assaulting a police officer. Authorities have also engaged with the parents of five young individuals, issuing formal warnings aimed at preventing further disturbances. Additionally, one girl received a Community Protection Warning, imposing strict controls on her movements to reduce the risk of continued trouble. Officers confiscated alcohol from underage drinkers during patrols as part of their efforts to curb street drinking.

Under the dispersal orders, police have the authority to remove anyone aged 10 or over suspected of causing a nuisance. Those who return to the restricted areas during the order period face arrest and more severe penalties. The orders cover town centres and beaches in Broadstairs, Margate, and Ramsgate and will remain in effect until Sunday afternoon, 29 June. Police have indicated that the restrictions may be extended if further incidents occur.

Kent Police are working alongside British Transport Police, Thanet District Council, and other law enforcement agencies to manage and reduce disorder. They remain vigilant against troublemakers arriving from neighbouring towns.

Chief Inspector Ian Swallow, Thanet’s District Commander, stated: “While it’s a small number of offenders, we know the impact on the community, and it won’t be tolerated.” He added, “Parents must talk to their children and remind them to behave. We’ve confiscated alcohol and are meeting parents to discuss their child’s conduct.”

“These measures are about keeping Thanet safe. We will maintain high-visibility patrols and urge the public to report any crime or disorder.”
