A teenage murderer serving life has launched a brutal assault on a prison officer, leaving him with a broken nose in a shocking prison rampage.

Violence Sparks at HMP Elmley

Jayden Gubetini, 19, appeared via video link from HMP Elmley during an Oxford Crown Court hearing on January 13. The violent inmate repeatedly punched officer Steven Cooper, smashing his nose, chipping a tooth, and cutting his lips.

Gubetini is serving life with a minimum 29 years for the murder of Cameron Bailey in High Wycombe last May. He was originally sentenced at Reading Crown Court in January 2023.

Record of Violence Behind Bars

The court heard Gubetini has a nasty history: back in May 2024, he slashed another inmate’s face with a homemade blade at HMP Bullingdon. That attack landed him in segregation.

How The Brutal Attack Unfolded

  • Gubetini flew into a rage after being denied time outside his cell for exercise.
  • He refused to return and was handcuffed by officers.
  • While escorted to segregation, he suddenly lunged at officer Cooper, delivering a savage attack.

“I found the events very stressful. I shake when I think of the events,” said Steven Cooper in a victim personal statement. “The high levels of stress and anxiety are the biggest issues. I’m worried he may assault me again. I’m lucky he didn’t use a weapon, knowing what he is capable of. All I did was carry out my job.”

Legal Fallout and Sentencing

Gubetini pleaded guilty to assaulting the officer. His defence lawyer Iraida Gladchi admitted his serious record and troubled past, including the tragic loss of his mother. She warned Gubetini faces a long stretch behind bars before parole could even be considered.

Judge Michael Roques stressed the gravity of the violence. Officer Cooper needed a month off work to recover. The judge made clear just how dangerous Gubetini has become behind bars.
