A 17-year-old boy has been charged following an arson attack at a synagogue in Kenton, sparking a Counter Terrorism investigation.
17-Year-Old Facing Court Over Synagogue Fire
After a swift probe by Counter Terrorism Policing London, a British teenager from Brent was charged with arson, not endangering life. The charge, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service on Monday 20 April, references sections 1(1), 1(3), and 4 of the Criminal Damage Act 1971.
Attack Details and Police Action
- The blaze occurred at Kenton United Synagogue on Shaftsbury Avenue, Harrow, at around 11:35pm on Saturday 18 April.
- Met officers spotted the damage during security checks just after midnight and called in the London Fire Brigade.
- Minor damage was caused; thankfully, no one was hurt.
Arrests and Next Steps
Two suspects were arrested on Sunday 19 April in north-west London— a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy— both held on suspicion of arson, reckless as to whether life was endangered. The 19-year-old has been released on bail while the 17-year-old remains in custody. The teen charged is due at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 21 April.
