A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of 24-year-old Jack Edwards, who died from fatal head injuries after an attack near Sussex Street Skate Park in Nottingham.
The brutal assault occurred around 6.50pm on Tuesday, with Mr. Edwards succumbing to his injuries in hospital two days later.
The young suspect, whose name is withheld for legal reasons, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday. He faces charges of murder and robbery related to the theft of Mr. Edwards’ bag.
Wearing a blue Adidas jacket, white shirt, and black trousers, the teenager was supported by family members during the hearing. The court did not ask him to enter pleas at this early stage. He has been remanded into youth custody and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court.
An 18-year-old man, Kai Howitt, has also been charged with murder and robbery tied to the same attack. He appeared at Nottingham Crown Court and remains in custody.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl is expected to face charges of robbery. Five other teenagers—three boys aged 17, 13, and 12, plus two girls aged 15 and 14—were previously arrested but released on bail while investigations continue.
As the young suspect left court, onlookers shouted words of encouragement, including “1 you, lad.” Mr. Edwards’ family described him as “much loved,” mourning their son, brother, and friend. He leaves behind his parents, a brother, a sister, and many friends.
Detective Inspector Clare Gibson is leading the investigation. She urged anyone with information to come forward and asked the public to respect the family’s privacy during this tragic time.
