South East London DEMANDS Sir Keir’s Resignation Over Mandelson Ambassador Scandal

Fury is boiling over in South East London after Sir Keir Starmer’s shock move to appoint ex-Labour heavyweight Peter Mandelson as UK ambassador to the US. The appointment, slammed due to Mandelson’s past links with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has sparked a major backlash.

Poll Shows Clear Majority Want Starmer Out

News Shopper asked 1,408 voters whether Sir Keir should quit. The results are damning:

  • 652 South East Londoners say “Resign!”
  • 465 from the same area back Sir Keir to stay
  • Only 183 outside the region want him gone, with 84 backing him
  • Just 24 voters remained undecided

That means 58% of South East London residents want Starmer gone, versus 42% holding firm.

Top Downing Street Aides Jump Ship

The crisis deepened as two senior aides quit in quick succession. Chief of Staff Morgan McSweeney took “full responsibility” for the controversial Mandelson appointment and stepped down early this month. Communications Director Tim Allan also resigned, wanting to “allow a new Number 10 team to be built.”

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar hinted that a full leadership shake-up may be looming. Labour backbenchers and unions are sounding alarms, though senior ministers remain loyal for now. No cabinet resignations have followed yet.

Starmer Holds Firm Despite Growing Pressure

National polls show a party and public growing sceptical of Starmer’s grip on power. Yet the Labour leader refuses to quit. “I will never walk away,” he declared, vowing to lead Labour “from the front” into the next general election.

But with South East London turning against him in droves, can Sir Keir hold on much longer?
