Crossbow and Gun Attack in Leeds: Two Women Seriously Injured
Counter Terrorism Policing North East has launched a probe after a terrifying attack in Leeds’ Headingley area. Early this afternoon, emergency services rushed to Otley Road where a man was spotted brandishing a crossbow and a firearm.
Officers discovered three wounded people at the scene. Two women were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. A 38-year-old man was arrested but later suffered a self-inflicted wound and is now receiving treatment in hospital. Police recovered two weapons from the scene.
Counter Terrorism Police Take The Lead
By 10:40pm, Counter Terrorism Policing North East confirmed they’re heading the investigation, backed by West Yorkshire Police. The motive remains unclear, and inquiries are ongoing.
“Although our enquiries are still at a very early stage, the circumstances surrounding this incident have resulted in Counter Terrorism Policing taking the lead for this investigation. From the enquiries undertaken so far, there is no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved, and at this time, we are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident,” said Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley.
Local Police Reassure Community Amid Shock
Assistant Chief Constable Carl Galvin of West Yorkshire Police said: “Clearly, this has been a shocking incident and we fully realise the concern it has caused. We are doing everything possible to investigate and understand what took place. An extensive number of uniformed officers remain deployed in the Otley Road area to reassure residents and continue our enquiries.”
Police Appeal for Calm and Information
A large cordon remains in place across Otley Road. Police urge locals to stay updated via official channels, avoid online speculation, and refrain from spreading unverified rumours that could harm the investigation.
