A brutal assault in Sandown has resulted in Paul Bishton, 32, being sentenced to five years in prison. The savage attack caused one man to suffer a fractured eye socket and multiple facial injuries.
The violent incident occurred on December 27, 2021, at a shared housing block on Fort Street. Bishton invited a fellow resident into his room under the pretense of interacting with his dog. Without warning, Bishton launched a vicious attack, punching the victim in the head and then repeatedly kicking his defenseless face.
Despite the victim’s desperate pleas for mercy, the assault continued with punches, kicks, and stomps to the head.
Bishton did not stop there; he also attacked another resident in the building, leaving scratches on the man’s shoulder, arms, and back.
After his arrest, Bishton was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH). Although he denied the most serious charge, the trial at Newport Crown Court found him guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Detective Constable Amela Smajic described the attack as a “horrific display of drunken violence” and stated that Bishton would face the full weight of the law.
