Gillingham Sex Offender Busted for Secret Browsing
A convicted child sex offender from Gillingham has landed himself back behind bars after blatantly breaking strict internet rules by using private browsing.
Sex Offender Breaks Key Internet Rule
Malcom Nix, 66, was found guilty of child sexual offences in 2015. Since then, he has been shackled with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). One crucial condition: any device he uses online must reveal his complete browsing history — no exceptions.
Cops Catch Nix Using Private Mode
During a routine visit on 9 September 2025, officers knocked on Nix’s door. He refused entry but reluctantly handed over his mobile phone. A quick scan revealed he was surfing the web in private browsing mode – a clear breach of his SHPO.
Jail Time for Breaking the Rules
Nix was charged the very next day and remanded in custody. At Maidstone Crown Court, he pleaded guilty and was slapped with a 13-month prison sentence on 18 February. His SHPO remains firmly in place.
“We regularly visit registered sex offenders to make sure they stick to conditions designed to protect our communities,” said PC Areolito Gashi. “Nix’s actions showed he’s still a danger to children. Once discovered, he was quickly arrested and made to face the court.”
