Police arrested a 47-year-old man following a serious assault on a woman in her 60s in Cosham. The incident occurred near Morrisons Daily on Chatsworth Avenue on Tuesday, February 25.
Officers responded to reports of an assault at approximately 4:25 pm. Upon arrival, they found the woman with a serious head injury at a nearby property. Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service quickly transported her to hospital. Authorities confirmed that her injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
The suspect, a Portsmouth man aged 47, was detained at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody as detectives continue their investigation into the attack.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary stated: “We were called at 4:25 pm yesterday afternoon to Morrisons Daily on Chatsworth Avenue, with reports that a woman in her 60s had been seriously assaulted at an address on the same road. Officers and colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service attended, and the woman was taken to hospital with a serious, but non-life-threatening, injury to her head.”
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
