Police Under Siege After Cracking Down on Illegal Rave in Hackney
Bricks and Bottles Thrown at Officers
Met Police officers faced a brutal attack on the Woodberry Down Estate in Hackney after shutting down an illegal, unlicensed music event. A crowd of around 150 threw kerb stones, bricks, and bottles at officers from the Tactical Support Group (TSG), putting public safety at risk. Two dog handlers barely escaped serious injury when a kerb stone whizzed just past a police dog and its handler.
Road Sealed Off to Control Chaos
Supported by City of London officers, the Met closed off Seven Sisters Road to disperse the unruly gathering and protect the local community. The quick response came as part of a wider crackdown on unlicensed events that often descend into violence and disorder.
Met Boosts Weekend Policing Amid Spike in Violence
Following a rash of recent murders, the Met has ramped up its presence across London. Extra resources from the Violent Crime Task Force, Trident, armed units, and newly formed Violence Suppression Units will patrol the capital this weekend. Their mission: prevent violence and clamp down hard on offenders.
DAC Lucy D’Orsi, Gold Commander, said: “The past week has seen a number of people who have needlessly lost their lives at the hands of violent criminals – any number of murders is too many but we are very concerned by the recent increase.”
“Unlicensed music events are not just disruptive; they increase the risk of COVID-19 transmission and have sparked violent clashes affecting both attendees and officers.”
“Tackling violence remains our top priority. Officers will be highly visible this weekend, engaging with communities to keep them safe, using tactics like stop and search where necessary.”
