Havant Launches Operation Syren to Crack Down on Youth Nuisance
Havant’s Neighbourhood Policing Team is cracking down on anti-social behaviour with a new year-long campaign called Operation Syren. Lately, large groups of youths hanging around fast food joints have caused chaos in the town centre. The new initiative aims to clean up the streets and restore peace for residents, market traders, and retailers alike.
Success So Far with Dispersal Orders
Recent dispersal orders covering the town centre and retail park kept troublemakers at bay while in effect. Now, Operation Syren is stepping up the fight to improve the quality of life for everyone in Havant. The campaign is backed by key partners, including Meridian Shopping Centre and Havant Borough Council’s Community Safety Team.
High-Tech Measures and Community Focus
Rob Fryer, Meridian Shopping Centre Manager, explained their all-out effort: “We’ve been working closely with Havant’s policing team to tackle low-level anti-social behaviour in the town centre.”
- Body cameras for staff act as a strong deterrent and help gather evidence for prosecutions.
- New external CCTV cameras now cover more of the town centre, giving eyes everywhere.
Fryer added, “It’s vital local shoppers feel safe choosing Havant over other retail spots, especially with Christmas around the corner.”
Policing Pledge
Inspector Andy Clinton said: “Tackling anti-social behaviour is a top priority for us. Operation Syren will provide the reassurance residents and visitors need to enjoy Havant’s town centre without fear.”
