Tragic Crash: Elderly Couple Killed in Police Chase Horror
Ben Ord, 41, faces two counts of causing death by dangerous driving after a terrifying crash that claimed the lives of a man and woman in their 70s. The fatal collision happened just after midnight on Footscray Road, Eltham, when a rental van being chased by police slammed into their car.
Police Pursuit Ends in Disaster
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, 23 February, officers spotted a Ford Transit van weaving erratically at high speed. When police signalled for the van to stop, the driver ignored them and sped on.
At around 12:06am, the van collided head-on with a Citroen C3 carrying the elderly couple. Driver Arrested Over Suspected DUI and Dangerous Driving
Ben Ord was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving while unfit, and causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital following the incident.
Authorities have informed the couple’s next of kin. The Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been notified, as is routine in police-related incidents.
