A pilot was airlifted to hospital after a light aircraft smashed into a sculpture park near Masham, North Yorkshire, on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency Crews Race to Crash Site
Police were alerted to the crash at 12:20pm. Multiple emergency teams, including ambulance crews and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, were scrambled to the scene immediately.
A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Leyburn, Thirsk and Ripon responded quickly. They freed the pilot from the wreckage and airlifted him to hospital. Firefighters made sure the scene was safe and clear of hazards.”
Sculpture Park Shut Down – No Other Injuries
The light aircraft crashed into a well-known sculpture park that’s currently closed for winter. Fortunately, no one else was hurt in the incident.
Serious Investigation Launched
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched a full inquiry. Experts in aircraft operations, engineering, and data analysis are gathering evidence to uncover the cause of the crash.
A spokesperson from Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust added: “We received a call at 12:24pm and deployed multiple ambulance units, including a team leader and the air ambulance. One patient was airlifted to hospital.”
