A 16-year-old teenager from Northumberland has been charged with multiple terrorism offences after police uncovered a significant arsenal at his residence. The discovery included extremist materials, weapons, and bomb-making components.
The boy was apprehended in 2025 at the age of 15 following an operation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and Northumbria Police. Officers seized approximately 4.8 terabytes of data, equivalent to about 1.2 million songs, which contained 253,005 messages.
Further investigation revealed that he participated in 25 far-right chat groups online, using a fake persona to conceal his extremist interests. During the search of his home, police found body armour, masks, extremist flags, and parts used for bomb-making. Additionally, 22 weapons were confiscated, including knives, a crossbow, and airsoft rifles.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, commented: “This case provides a stark reminder around the dangers of extreme content online that is accessible to the public and how individuals can be drawn into serious offending.”
The case highlights the increasing threat of online radicalisation affecting young people across Britain.
