A street in Tunbridge Wells remains locked down after a fatal stabbing shocked the community. Officers are guarding both ends of the cordon as paramedics and detectives work the scene.

The victim has been named locally as Gordon Farnes, who lived at 67 Sherwood Road. Neighbours reported hearing and seeing an air ambulance land at nearby Temple Grove Academy just before midday.

Kent Police confirmed they launched a murder investigation after being called to Sherwood Road at 10:42am on Tuesday 17 July 2018. Despite the rapid response from South East Coast Ambulance Service, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A knife has been recovered from the scene. A local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody. Police believe the victim and suspect knew each other.

Officers continue to piece together the events leading to the tragedy. The victim’s next of kin have been informed.
