Driver Disqualified After Fatal Crash That Killed Moped Rider
A driver has been banned from the road for two years after a tragic crash that claimed the life of a moped rider.
Careless Driving Causes Fatal Collision
Simon Boyd, 39, from Chaffinch Green, was found guilty of causing death by careless driving. The crash happened at 6.17am on October 26, when Boyd pulled his Mitsubishi pick-up out of Kirpal Road onto Eastern Road without properly checking for oncoming traffic.
His truck collided with a Yamaha moped driven by 52-year-old Gary Martin, who sadly died from his injuries after being rushed to hospital. Boyd escaped without injury.
Heavy Sentence for Serious Negligence
Boyd was handed a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. He must also complete 120 hours of unpaid work and faces a two-year driving ban.
“This was a tragic incident that could have easily been avoided if Mr Boyd had taken the time to look properly before he pulled out,” said PC Lucy Hawkins.
She added, “Those few extra seconds to check that the road was clear would have prevented Mr Martin’s death and saved his family the heartache of losing him so suddenly.”
Police Warn: A Moment’s Inattention Could Cost Lives
PC Hawkins urged all road users to stay alert. “It’s not worth the risk,” she said. “This case highlights just how dangerous a few moments of inattention can be. Stay vigilant because those few seconds could save a life.”
