Life Behind Bars for Killer Maurice Jones

Maurice Jones, 25, has been handed life in prison with a minimum of 30 years for the murder of 20-year-old Tsvetomir Genov, known as TG. The sentencing came after Jones was found guilty in June following a two-week jury trial.

Fatal Fight Over Family Drama

The horrific attack happened on August 22 last year in Salisbury’s Gainsborough Close. Jones had recently moved in with TG’s former partner, sparking tensions over TG’s son. When TG was pushing his child’s pram back to the mother’s house, Jones launched a savage stabbing.

  • Tsvetomir Genov died at the scene despite emergency services’ efforts.
  • Jones fled, ditching the murder weapon and his trousers, but was quickly caught thanks to witness reports and police action.
  • He denied the murder, claiming self-defence and that he carried the knife for protection, but the jury saw through the lies.

Police Praise Witnesses and Community

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker led the investigation. He paid tribute to TG’s family for their dignity during the trial and thanked the local community for crucial witness support that helped convict Jones.

“Knife crime kills and ruins lives. If Jones hadn’t brought a knife that day, TG would still be with us. There’s never a good excuse to carry a knife,” said DCI Walker. “Often, carrying a knife puts you more in danger. This case shows the lifelong consequences it can have for victims and perpetrators alike.”

A Grim Reminder of Knife Crime’s Toll

This tragic case is a stark warning on the deadly impact of knife violence. Police vow to keep tackling knife crime to protect communities and prevent more lives being shattered.
