Police rushed to Hornsey Rise Gardens, N19, at 4:24pm on Tuesday, 8 June, following reports of gunshots. Officers, along with London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Witnesses described the attack as shocking, claiming the victim’s face was “blown apart” in the brutal daylight shooting. The incident has left the local community deeply shaken.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue. A crime scene has been established and is still in place.
In response to the incident, police have authorised a Section 60 order across a large part of the Islington borough. This gives officers enhanced stop-and-search powers to aid the investigation.
