A Leeds man has been jailed for 15 months after a savage Southport assault that left a man unconscious and seriously injured.
Leeds Man Bashes Victim in Brutal Southport Attack
Jacob Hutchingson, 30, from Nineveh Gardens, Leeds, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, 20 March. He admitted to two serious charges: grievous bodily harm with intent and wounding with intent.
The attack happened on Sunday, 6 April 2025. Hutchingson knocked his victim – a man in his 30s – out cold before stamping on his ankle and stomach. Emergency services rushed the victim to hospital, where he was treated for a broken ankle and other injuries.
CCTV and Public Help Nab Hutchingson Fast
Merseyside Police launched a swift investigation using CCTV footage and a public appeal. This led to Hutchingson’s quick arrest.
“I was not confident going out by myself when I was on crutches and it took several months to try and get that confidence back,” said the victim in a statement. “I was scared to bump into my attacker, unable to remember their face so every male that looked at me I thought it was him. I am still worried going out with my friends into Southport day and night.”
Detective Slams Attack, Welcomes Jail Sentence
Detective Constable Immy Mahmood said: “This was a nasty assault that left a man in hospital with serious injuries. It’s only right Hutchingson is now behind bars, where I hope he reflects on his appalling actions on that night.”
