Husband Jailed for Life After Brutal Murder of Wife in Shinfield
A chilling murder has rocked Shinfield as Laurens Brand, 47, was sentenced for the savage killing of his wife, Angela Mittal. The attack happened in their Parker Close home on Boxing Day last year.
Bloodbath in the Bedroom
Angela Mittal suffered a horrific 59 stab wounds to her neck and chest. She died instantly at the scene. Brand’s chilling call to emergency services didn’t ask for an ambulance – only the police, already knowing she was beyond help.
Guilty Plea and Sentence
Brand pled guilty to murder at Reading Crown Court on 22 March. Today (May 10), he was locked up for life with a minimum term of 16 years and eight months behind bars.
Police: “Brutal Assault in the Home She Should Have Felt Safe”
“This was a brutal assault carried out by Laurens Brand on his wife, Angela Mittal during which she suffered 59 separate injuries,” said Detective Inspector Mike Roddy.
“Brand subjected Angela to this vicious attack in her own home, a place where she should have felt safe and secure. Instead of helping Angela, he tried to clean up before calling 999.”
“It has been an extremely difficult time for Angela’s family. They have shown tremendous courage throughout this investigation and especially today,” added DI Roddy.
The tragic case highlights the depths of domestic violence, with a killer turning a sanctuary into a scene of horror.
