Paedophile Slapped with 14-Year Sentence After Victim Finally Speaks Out

A 44-year-old man from Uckfield has been locked up for 14 years after a courageous victim broke years of silence over horrific sexual abuse.

Decade of Abuse Exposed

David Newsom, of Regency Close, Uckfield, was arrested on 18 November 2025. Police uncovered a shocking trail of sexual offences against a boy spanning almost a decade, starting when the child was just 10 years old.

The abuse dragged on until just one month before Newsom’s arrest. He was charged immediately and appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court the following day, where he was remanded in custody.

Newsom Pleads Guilty to Multiple Charges

On 7 January at Lewes Crown Court, Newsom admitted to eight serious offences including rape, four counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, and three counts of sexual activity with a child.

Following his guilty plea, Brighton Crown Court handed down a hefty 14-year prison sentence on 23 March.

Detective Hails Victim’s Bravery

“Without the victim’s courage in speaking out about the sexual abuse he endured, this could have continued unchecked,” said Detective Constable Nandi Luthuli, who led the investigation.

“The final offence took place just one month before Newsom’s arrest, bringing an end to around nine years of sexual abuse.

“Let there be no doubt – anyone abusing children will be investigated and held accountable.

“And to victims, we will listen to you. There is no shame in speaking out, and you should never feel you have to suffer in silence.

“The abuse cannot be undone, but this chapter is now closed. We hope the victim can now move forward and begin to heal.”
