Daring Trespasser Jailed After Breaking Into Kensington Palace Twice
A cheeky trespasser has been locked up for 32 weeks after crashing the grounds of Kensington Palace not once, but twice — just days before Christmas.
Derek Egan’s Brazen Palace Break-Ins
Derek Egan, 39, made headlines by storming the palace grounds two days in a row last December. His first break-in was around 4am on December 22 when he scaled a fence – but he was swiftly arrested and slapped with a strict ban.
Ignoring the warning, Egan returned the very next day, landing himself in even deeper legal trouble. At Westminster Magistrates’ Court, he pleaded guilty to two counts of trespassing on a protected site.
“Because I Am a Criminal,” Egan Shrugs
When grilled on why he took such a risk, Egan simply said, “Because I am a criminal.”
About his personal life, he added, “All is fine.”
Judge Hits Back with Heavy Jail Term
Representing himself in court, Egan was handed a tough sentence by Deputy Senior District Judge Tan Ikram: 16 weeks for each offence, to run back-to-back.
The judge slammed the break-ins as serious security breaches. Trespassing on protected sites like royal palaces is a criminal offence under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005, carrying harsh penalties to keep copycats at bay.
Kensington Palace security isn’t messing about. Egan’s jail time sends a clear warning: royal grounds are off limits, no matter what.
