A 24-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following a brutal attack that led to a man’s death in Eastbourne last year.
Brutal Assault Ends in Tragedy
On 26 October 2025, emergency teams were called to Canute Close after a 66-year-old man was violently attacked. Despite being rushed to hospital, the victim tragically died on 12 November 2025.
Attacker’s Charges Upgraded to Manslaughter
Cameron Grocutt, 24, homeless and with no fixed address, was initially charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm. Following the victim’s death, the Crown Prosecution Service and Attorney General’s Office reviewed the case and escalated the charge to manslaughter.
Grocutt appeared briefly at Brighton Magistrates’ Court in November and is due back on 18 February to answer the manslaughter charge.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
“The investigation remains a priority,” said Detective Superintendent Jayantha Mendis-Gunasekera. “We believe this was an isolated incident. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.”
