North London Man Charged Over Terror Licence Breach
A north London man who blew his student loan on jihadi travels has been charged with breaching terror laws.
Yayha Rashid in Court Over Terror Offences
Yayha Rashid, 23, was charged today following a probe by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (CTC). The youngster spent his education funds on trips aimed at joining Islamic State.
He faces two charges under the Counter Terrorism Act 2008 and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.
Arrest Comes Amid Routine Terror Checks
Rashid was arrested on Sunday, 1 December, after failing to keep police updated with his phone and email details as required under terror laws.
The 23-year-old was held under PACE and later charged with two counts of failing “without reasonable excuse” to notify police, violating sections 48 and 54 of the Counter Terrorism Act.
Unrelated to London Bridge Attack
Police stressed this arrest is unrelated to the London Bridge terror attack on 29 November. Investigations were already underway before that incident.
