A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a dramatic shooting in Speedwell earlier this week, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed.

Gun Fired at Car on Speedwell Road

William Scammell, from Speedwell, faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a shortened shotgun. The firearm was fired at a car on Speedwell Road around 1:50pm on Wednesday 1 April. The victim, a man in his twenties, remains critically injured in the hospital. Police are supporting him and his family as the investigation continues.

More Arrests and Court Date Set

Two others—a man and a woman, also in their twenties—were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but have since been released on police bail. Scammell is set to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 4 April.

Schools Locked Down Amid Shooting Panic

Four nearby schools were placed in precautionary lockdown during the incident but have now safely sent pupils home.

Detective Chief Inspector Jess Aston said: “We understand this has been a very shocking and concerning incident, but we would like to reassure the public that this remains a priority investigation for us. Neighbourhood officers continue to conduct high-visibility reassurance patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns or questions are encouraged to speak with us.”
