Shane Cameron, 24, from Ashburnham Road, Bedford, was caught red-handed with a huge pile of cash hidden in his car in Luton. On 8 December 2020, police stopped Cameron’s vehicle on Gardenia Avenue, Luton, and discovered a laundry bag and multiple plastic shopping bags stuffed with large sums of money.
Cameron later appeared at Luton Crown Court on 12 December 2020. He pleaded guilty to possession of criminal property under Section 329 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. On 12 February, he was sentenced to 16 months behind bars.
Detective Sergeant Steve Lambeth from the Metropolitan Police’s Proactive Money Laundering Team said, “We take a zero tolerance approach to this sort of criminality within our community. This considerable seizure disrupts organised crime and cuts off funding that finances serious offences across the UK. It also represents money from past crimes used to stack such vast cash.”
He added, “Despite pandemic challenges, our officers remain relentless in bringing criminals to justice.”
The police urge anyone with information about criminal activity to come forward. Community tips play a vital role in detecting and preventing crime, helping to keep London safe.
