Four men have been sentenced to a combined total of 48 and a half years in prison following a brutal knife attack that resulted in the death of Tyreece Scott in Hounslow. The arrests and convictions came after a detailed investigation led by Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime officers.
Ben Laing, 23, from Feltham, and Durra Abdi, 19, from Acton, each received 22-year sentences for the fatal stabbing of 24-year-old Tyreece Scott on January 16, 2024, in Hibernia Road, Hounslow. In addition to the murder charges, Laing was convicted of drug supply offences, while Abdi received extra time for carrying a bladed weapon.
The prosecution revealed that the murder was the result of a violent feud over drug-dealing territory in the area.
Two other men were also convicted for their roles in attempting to pervert the course of justice. Reda Mohamed, 24, from Hounslow, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for trying to cover up the crime. Morgan Allen, 29, from Feltham, received a suspended sentence of two years, suspended for 18 months, for obstructing justice.
Detectives used CCTV footage and phone data to identify and apprehend the suspects. Laing and Abdi were arrested at Stansted Airport on January 19, 2024, as they returned to the UK. CCTV footage placed Abdi at the scene carrying a bag that matched one found at the crime location. Phone records revealed incriminating text messages, web searches, and notes related to the attack. Notably, Abdi’s phone showed searches for “Hounslow stabbing” shortly after the incident.
Detective Inspector Paul Fagence commented on the case, stating, “Drug dealing is an ugly business which has cost Tyreece his life. This case is a tragic reminder of the devastating impact drugs have on communities.” He added, “There was no evidence Tyreece knew the attackers, but CCTV, mobile phone data, and ANPR helped us secure a strong case.” DI Fagence concluded, “Our thoughts are with Tyreece’s family and friends. We hope this brings them some peace.”
The sentences were handed down at the Old Bailey on January 10, 2025. This case is part of the Metropolitan Police’s ‘A New Met for London’ initiative, which focuses on tackling knife crime and drug-related violence. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any gang or drug activity in their communities to help prevent further violence.
