Brothers Jailed After Police Find Gun and Samurai Sword in Harrogate

Police Raid Uncovers Deadly Arsenal and Drugs

Two brothers have been locked up after police found an illegal firearm and a deadly Samurai-style sword at a Harrogate home. North Yorkshire Police raided the property on 11 October 2024 and uncovered a modified handgun, live and spent ammunition, and a stash of cannabis hidden in an outbuilding.

The gun was originally a blank-firing weapon but had been illegally converted into a live firearm.

DNA Evidence Links Brothers to Weapons

Forensic tests identified two sets of DNA on the illegal gun, tying it directly to brothers Charlie and Robbie Nelson.

  • Charlie Roy Nelson, 31, was arrested at the scene. He faced multiple charges, including possession of a firearm, ammunition, an offensive weapon, and Class B drugs.
  • Robbie Nelson, 27, was already in custody when the raid happened but was later charged with possession of a firearm.

Five-Year Sentences at York Crown Court

Charlie Nelson pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years at York Crown Court on 3 February 2025. Robbie admitted guilt later and received the same five-year sentence on 30 January 2026.
