A violent robber who terrorised a 68-year-old shopkeeper during a dawn raid has been jailed for nine years. Clinton Jackson, 26, from London, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob after breaking into the Welcome Store on Lyndhurst Road, New Milton, just before 6am on July 27, 2014.

Jackson and two accomplices forced their way inside as the elderly woman was opening the shop. They threatened her with a handgun, repeatedly menaced her with a knife, and subjected her to a sustained and ruthless 10-minute assault. The victim suffered bruises to her face and body and required treatment at Southampton General Hospital following the terrifying ordeal.

The trio fled the scene, but Jackson was tracked down and arrested in London by Hampshire police during a targeted operation named Operation Lupo. He was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court to nine years in prison.

Detective Sergeant Steve Deeprose said: “This has been a long and complicated investigation into a prolonged and violent attack on a vulnerable person going about her normal daily routine. I hope this result demonstrates that we will use every means to bring the people who commit these crimes to justice, no matter how long it takes.”
