A notorious burglar, Paul Anderson, 49, from Croydon, has been sentenced to four years in prison after a series of break-ins across Gosport.

Between September 26 and 27, Anderson broke into a flat on The Anchorage and stole jewellery. On October 24, he targeted a house on Peel Road, stealing clothes. Just five days later, on October 29, he committed another burglary, taking jewellery from a home on Monckton Road.

Anderson’s criminal activities were not limited to Gosport. He also faced charges for three burglaries in London. In addition, the court considered ten more break-ins and a theft in Gosport, including offences at Dimensions Hairdressers on North Cross Street on October 1, Fox and Sons Estate Agents on High Street on October 14, and multiple homes on Molesworth Road, Rectory Close, Green Road, Grove Avenue, Elson Lane, St Thomas’ Road, Blake Road, and Peel Road between August and October. He was also responsible for theft from a boat at Gosport Marina on August 19.

Anderson pled guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court and was sentenced on February 15. Police Staff Investigator Catherine Cole commented, “The sentence reflects the seriousness of Anderson’s offending and we hope it brings some closure to his victims.”

Police are advising local residents to remain vigilant and protect their homes. Recommended security measures include locking all windows and doors, especially at night and when away; using multi-point locks on UPVC doors and lifting handles before locking; keeping car and house keys out of sight and away from windows and letterboxes; leaving lights on or using timers to create the appearance someone is home; securing side gates and locking away ladders and tools; installing intruder alarms and visible alarm boxes; fitting spy holes and door chains for extra security at entrances; turning strangers away and reporting suspicious activity to the police; and registering valuables on Immobilise.

Residents are encouraged to follow these tips to help keep their homes safe and prevent burglars like Anderson from striking again.
