A G4S driver has been sentenced to prison after stealing £1 million from the cash-in-transit van he was responsible for driving. Joel March, 36, of Rectory Grove, SW4, received a jail term of four years and four months at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 26 July.
March pleaded guilty to theft and concealing criminal property in April at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court. The theft occurred on Tuesday, 23 April, when the cash-in-transit vehicle was robbed while parked in Clapham, with no signs of forced entry reported.
The Metropolitan Police’s elite Flying Squad took charge of the investigation and arrested March at a flat in Keats, SE5, the following day at around 3pm. Officers discovered £28,600 in his room, but the search for the remaining stolen money is ongoing.
Detective Inspector Jason Barber, leading the investigation, said, “March abused his position of trust through greed. His sentence today does not end our investigation. My officers continue to work hard to locate the stolen cash and repay every penny back to G4S. March will not benefit from this offence.”
DI Barber also issued a warning to the public, urging anyone with information about the missing cash to come forward. “I want to be absolutely clear that anyone who benefits from the stolen cash will be fully investigated and may face prosecution,” he added.
