Oliver Huckerby, 22, from Hertfordshire, has been sentenced to seven years in prison following a violent outburst at the Royal Leonardo Hotel in London.

The court heard that on December 16, 2023, Huckerby, who was high on cocaine for the first time and heavily intoxicated after sharing two bottles of wine, launched a savage attack on hotel staff.

Following the recent death of his grandmother, Huckerby’s grief escalated into chaos when he was refused entry to the rooftop bar due to his level of intoxication. Furious, he snapped and used a broken wine glass as a weapon against staff members.

Security guard Daniel Lessie was slashed twice in the face with the shattered glass, resulting in deep wounds. He has since faced mental health challenges and financial difficulties, being unable to work for nine months.

Bartender Khadar Said suffered a terrifying 6cm wound to the skull after being struck with the glass stem. The attack caused him to develop PTSD and forced him to change his career.

Security guard Marcel Seaka sustained a jagged facial wound and continues to struggle with eating and sleeping due to embedded glass shards.

After the violent rampage, Huckerby fled the scene with his girlfriend but was quickly arrested by City of London Police. While in custody, he further displayed aggression by hurling water at a police officer.

At Inner London Crown Court, Huckerby faced multiple charges including three counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. He pleaded guilty to some charges but claimed to have no memory of the attack, attributing his actions to intoxication. The jury rejected his defense.

His lawyer described the incident as “two minutes of madness” and stated that Huckerby had never taken drugs before. The defense also highlighted his previously good character and his role as a caregiver.

Judge Vanessa Baraitser condemned the violent outburst, stating: “That night, no doubt fuelled by drink and drugs, you went on a rampage, breaking the glass in your hand on the face of Mr. Lessie, then lashing out at anyone who came within striking distance.”

The judge emphasized that Huckerby’s violent attack on staff who were simply performing their duties was unforgivable and aggravated by his intoxicated state.

Huckerby was sentenced to seven years in prison for the brutal assaults, serving as a stern warning about the dangerous combination of alcohol, drugs, and violence.
