Ex-Firefighter Jailed for Five Years Over Online Gun and Ammo Haul
Slough Man Caught with Arsenal After Jamaica Trip
Tyrone Bahar, 43, a former firefighter from Slough, was slammed with a five-year prison sentence after being caught with a massive cache of illegal weapons. The National Crime Agency (NCA) swooped on him at Birmingham Airport when he returned from a holiday in Jamaica, uncovering a disturbing haul bought online from Europe.
Massive Weapons Stash Found in Cars and Family Homes
Officers seized:
- A revolver
- A forward venting blank firing pistol
- Eight pepper spray canisters
- Two stun guns
- 569 rounds of ammunition
- A machete
- An extendable baton
At his mother’s address, they uncovered three more firearms, an additional stun gun, and 145 rounds of ammo.
Bahar’s Weak Excuses and Guilty Plea
Bahar initially claimed he believed the guns were legal and insisted he planned to hand them in at a police amnesty. He also blamed the pepper spray cans found in his cars on his garage. But he later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition without a certificate.
He was sentenced on 1 February at Kingston Crown Court.
NCA Warns of Dangerous Weapons Flooding Crime Networks
Mark McCormack, NCA branch commander, said: “Bahar hid these weapons around his home, cars and family’s properties trying to dodge detection. These illegal firearms can be lethal and are often snapped up by organised criminals.”
“Taking this haul off the streets has removed dangerous weapons from circulation. We will keep cracking down on those trying to smuggle guns into the UK.”
Bahar was caught as part of Project Vizardlike, an NCA-led crackdown on illegal firearms imported online. Since 2018, the operation has seized over 550 prohibited weapons and 3,500 rounds of ammunition.
