A man was trapped and savagely attacked by his ex-girlfriend and two accomplices after she called him for help, a court heard. Benjamin Edwards was punched, kicked, and even bitten in a shocking assault caught on video – all while his ex laughed.
Planned Trap Ends in Violent Assault
Summer Marl-Brock, her cousin David Brock, and Aaron Evans plotted the attack on Benjamin Edwards. Marl-Brock lured Edwards by pretending to be in trouble and needing help after a night out. While Edwards arrived worried, Brock and Evans lay in wait. They attacked him from both sides of his car. Inside the car, Brock punched and kicked Edwards and bit his face. Evans attacked through the passenger door. All of it was recorded by Marl-Brock, who laughed as the assault unfolded — only calling for it to stop when she judged Edwards had suffered enough.
Victim Left With Lasting Trauma
The attack left Edwards with haemorrhaged eyes, bruises, swelling, a fractured jaw, bite marks, and an ear wound. In a victim statement, he revealed he now struggles with panic attacks, nightmares, and social anxiety. The scars are a constant reminder of that brutal night.
Courts Slam Attackers with Jail Time and Restraining Orders
All three attackers pleaded guilty to wounding with intent. The court heard Marl-Brock and Edwards had a turbulent 12-month relationship marked by mutual accusations of violence and bitterness.
- David Brock, 38 was handed seven years and two months, plus an extended three years on licence due to his significant risk to the public.
- Aaron Evans, 34 got six years and three months, serving at least two-thirds behind bars.
- Summer Marl-Brock, 21 received 54 months with two-thirds in prison and will get healthcare support while incarcerated.
They face a 15-year restraining order banning contact with Edwards and must pay statutory surcharges.
Background and Context
The court heard Brock has a violent history with 14 convictions, including assault and possession of an offensive weapon. Evans carries 31 convictions spanning violent and drug offences. Marl-Brock had only one prior driving conviction. Defence lawyers highlighted their clients’ personal struggles, including mental health issues, tough upbringings, and family responsibilities, but Judge Simon Mills condemned the vicious nature of the planned revenge attack.
“You all played your individual parts in a truly brutal assault… The biting is a particularly chilling feature,” said Judge Mills. “Mr Edwards was trapped with no chance to defend himself.”
