Essex has been shaken by a shocking discovery in Billericay where the remains of 37 dead dogs were found at a residential property. Oaveed Rahman, 26, from Crays Hill, has admitted to serious offences following a police investigation that revealed the grim scene.
At Basildon Crown Court today, Rahman pleaded guilty to 11 counts of fraud by false representation and one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. The animal cruelty charge relates to abuse involving 21 dogs and a cat, highlighting severe neglect and mistreatment.
The investigation began in May last year after police received tips about Rahman’s Crays Hill address. Essex Police worked alongside the RSPCA and Basildon Council to conduct a thorough search of the property. The search uncovered the remains of 37 dead dogs and several live animals in very poor condition.
Rahman is scheduled to be sentenced on 20 February. Charges against Greta Csikos, 25, from Chingford, were dropped following Rahman’s guilty plea. Essex Police stated, “Following a detailed investigation by the Basildon Neighbourhood Policing Team, Rahman had no option but to admit his offences.”
This distressing case has caused concern across the community, revealing the harsh realities of animal cruelty in Essex and leading to calls for stricter oversight and enforcement.
