Tomas Sarmento, 43, from East Timor, has been locked up for 17 years after sexually abusing a girl under 13 in Winsford. The twisted offences happened between 2022 and 2023, starting when the victim was just eight years old.

Sarmento lured the child into his home by promising free Wi-Fi access. Once inside, he carried out his sickening attacks.

The victim showed incredible courage by confiding in a friend, who alerted the police. An immediate police investigation was launched. Sarmento denied all charges but was arrested and prosecuted.
