David Blann, 36, from East Preston, has avoided immediate imprisonment after being convicted of stealing more than £1,400 worth of goods from supermarkets across West Sussex. Between March and July, Blann committed 25 thefts and one unsuccessful attempt at various stores in the region.

Blann was apprehended on 18 July while shoplifting and was charged on the spot. He pleaded guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court without contesting the charges. On 22 September, he was sentenced to 17 weeks in prison, but the sentence was suspended for 12 months.

Sussex Police condemned Blann’s shoplifting spree for causing significant disruption to local retailers and impacting businesses financially. Sergeant Amelia Roberts stated, “Retail crime has a real impact on shop workers and the community. We remain committed to tackling offenders and supporting businesses.”

This case is part of Operation Apprentice, an ongoing initiative by Sussex Police aimed at reducing repeat shoplifting offences. The operation focuses on protecting local stores from theft and maintaining safety within the community.
