Tobias Green, 34, went on a violent spree through Cowes earlier this year, which culminated in a prison sentence. The incidents began on 17 May when a drunken Green swore at staff in The Anchor pub before storming into a nearby shop brandishing a knife. He demanded cash and hurled abuse at the terrified shopkeeper.

Still carrying the knife, Green then smashed a bannister inside a social club. Not finished, he returned to The Anchor pub, shouting and banging on the windows. Police acted quickly and arrested Green nearby as he attempted to ride away on his bicycle.

Just days later, on 21 May, paramedics treating Green in Cowes faced his aggression. He spat in one paramedic’s eye and made lewd gestures to another inside an ambulance. Earlier in the year, on 27 January, Green hurled racist abuse at women and passengers near the Floating Bridge in East Cowes. That same evening, he was involved in a public order incident in Castle Street.

While out on bail, Green attacked a man he knew in Sandown on 9 August. He punched and kicked the victim repeatedly before dragging him to the floor.

Green faced multiple charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, six public order offences including racially aggravated abuse, possession of a knife in public, criminal damage, common assault of emergency workers, and assault by beating of emergency workers.

He pleaded guilty to all offences and was sentenced to 51 weeks in prison at Isle of Wight Crown Court on 4 November.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Wilkinson said: “These cases reflect a prolonged period of aggressive, violent, and inappropriate behaviour by Green towards a number of people on the Isle of Wight, including paramedics who are employed to keep people safe and help them in their time of need. His actions were nothing short of deplorable on all of these occasions. We take this sort of violence incredibly seriously, and have an especially robust stance against anyone who carries a knife in public.”

“I hope the public can feel reassured that Green is now behind bars where he belongs.”
