On Thursday 27th November 2025, officers from the Middlesbrough Proactive Team pursued Wilson Junior Wunganai, 38, after he failed to stop on Palm Street. Driving a Volvo, Wunganai sped recklessly through the town.
The chase ended when Wunganai crashed into two brick planters while attempting to navigate a narrow pedestrian path near Borough Road. Despite the crash, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended after a short sprint.
At the time of his arrest, police found suspected cocaine worth approximately £360 on Wunganai. A later search of his home on Gretton Avenue uncovered additional drugs including cocaine, heroin, and cannabis, along with over £10,000 in cash. The quantity of drugs and cash indicated significant drug-dealing activity.
Wunganai faced multiple charges including possession with intent to supply class A drugs, cannabis possession, possession of criminal property, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.
On Friday 27th March at Teesside Crown Court, Wunganai was sentenced to 4½ years in prison and received a 57-month driving ban. This sentence follows a dramatic high-speed drug bust in Middlesbrough, bringing justice after the dangerous incident.
