Drone Users Beware: Red Arrows Practice Grounds Locked Down
Drone pilots in Nottinghamshire, take note! The iconic RAF Red Arrows are practising near RAF Syerston, Newark, and that means no-fly zones for drones are now in place.
5-Mile No-Fly Zone Enforced Until April 7
Temporary flight restrictions have been imposed in a five-mile radius around RAF Syerston. These rolling restrictions are active until April 7, shutting out all aircraft, including drones.
Fly here during training? You risk criminal charges.
Police Warn: Drones Pose Major Danger to Low-Flying Aircraft
“Drones can be great fun to fly, but they can also pose a significant danger to low flying aircraft,” said Sergeant Vince Saunders, chief drone pilot for Nottinghamshire Police.
“With the world-famous Red Arrows operating above Nottinghamshire, drone users must be extra careful about where and when they fly.
The onus is on all drone operators to check when these restrictions apply, as they roll on and off.”
Don’t Risk a Repeat of Derbyshire Drone Conviction
A recent conviction in Buxton, Derbyshire, saw a drone user found guilty of endangering an RAF flight. Nottinghamshire police are eager to avoid a similar disaster on their turf.
For safer drone flying, pilots should consult The Drone and Model Aircraft Code by the Civil Aviation Authority. If unsure about flight zones, visit dronesafetymap.com or grab the “DroneAssist” app.
