A 19-year-old woman has been jailed after smashing her car into a teenager playing rugby in a South Wales car park.

Fiat 500 Speeds Into Rugby Teen

Lexi Dyas pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious injury. She slammed her Fiat 500 at high speed into 19-year-old Declan Mahoney in a nearly empty Mountain Ash car park in July 2024.

The court heard Dyas was distracted, chatting to a friend and not paying attention. She claimed she thought Declan had run away before hitting him.

Prosecutor Andrew Davies: “She didn’t have a grudge against Declan at all. She said she thought Declan had run the opposite way, and the next thing she knew, she hit him.”

Declan tried to dodge the speeding car, but Dyas swerved and struck him, sending him flying through the air. He was rushed to hospital with serious fractures to his arm, leg, and finger.
