Steve Wright, aged 66, has appeared at the Old Bailey charged with the kidnap and murder of 17-year-old Victoria Hall, a crime that shocked Suffolk more than 25 years ago.

Victoria Hall, a teenager from Trimley St Mary in Suffolk, disappeared after a night out at Felixstowe’s Bandbox nightclub on September 18, 1999. She was last seen walking home in the early hours but never made it through the door.

Her body was discovered five days later, dumped in a ditch at Creeting St Peter, approximately 25 miles from where she was last seen.

Steve Wright, formerly of London Road, Ipswich, appeared via video link from Long Lartin Prison in Worcestershire on Wednesday. He denied the kidnap and murder charges at a previous hearing at Ipswich Crown Court. However, he has yet to enter a plea to an attempted kidnap charge related to another woman in Felixstowe.

Wearing a grey sweatshirt, Wright was remanded in custody ahead of his trial, which is scheduled to begin on February 2, 2026, at the Old Bailey. Mr Justice Bennathan also announced that a further case management hearing will be arranged.

The murder case remained unsolved for over 20 years until Suffolk Police reopened the investigation in 2019. Wright was charged in June 2024 after new forensic evidence and witness statements emerged.

Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about Victoria Hall’s disappearance and murder to come forward to assist in bringing justice to her family.
