Witchell was finally caught at Holyhead Port in August 2025. Several of his cronies were already behind bars after busts in March 2023. Detective Constable Gareth Reynolds of Staffordshire’s Economic Crime Unit said:
“This was a highly sophisticated criminal operation which generated millions by exploiting vulnerable people and stealing their property. Despite spending 14 years on the run, Witchell couldn’t escape justice. This case highlights the scale of organised crime preying on local communities, and we remain determined to tackle it every day.”
