A West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic was left with a broken jaw after a shocking assault in Coventry. Police have charged 21-year-old Jamie Davies over the brutal attack that took place on Sunday evening, 5th April, in the Earlsdon area.
Davies allegedly lashed out after ambulance crews were called to his home on Winifred Avenue. He was arrested the following day and now faces several serious charges, including wounding, dangerous driving for crashing into the ambulance while fleeing the scene, driving without a licence or insurance, and criminal damage for breaking a glass door pane at a doctor’s surgery on Baliol Road on 31st March.
Jamie Davies is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court via video link today, 7th April.
The victim, a 40-year-old paramedic with over six years of service, required surgery to insert a metal plate into his fractured jaw. Thankfully, he has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home, though he faces a lengthy recovery period and several months off work.
Anthony Marsh, CEO of West Midlands Ambulance Service, expressed his outrage: “This was a horrendous assault on one of my staff. At a time when the NHS is under more pressure than ever, losing an experienced paramedic to a cowardly attack is beyond belief. We are determined to work with police to bring anyone who attacks my staff to justice.”
We send our best wishes to the injured paramedic and hope for his full recovery.
