George Jones, 22, committed a burglary at a home on Cornwall Road on the morning of Saturday 14 October. During the break-in, he stole cash, clothes, mobile phones, and a car key.
Using the stolen key, Jones drove off in the victim’s car. Police quickly identified him from images and located the stolen vehicle in Shepton Mallet on Friday 20 October. Jones was found driving the car and was arrested immediately.
Jones, who has no fixed address, faced multiple charges including burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts of driving without a licence. He appeared at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 October where he pleaded guilty to all charges.
Additionally, Jones admitted to two separate thefts in Glastonbury on 26 September, involving the theft of a handbag containing cash and shoplifting alcohol.
PC Jim Card stated: “George Jones’ involvement was quickly established by officers and the fact he was caught driving the stolen vehicle meant he had little option but to plead guilty to multiple offences.”
He added: “He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Taunton Crown Court on Monday 20 November. We are pleased to bring the offender so quickly before the courts, and to return the stolen vehicle to its rightful owner.”
